Corrections
Corrections policy
We would rather be corrected than be wrong. Here is how to tell us about an error and what we do next.
Reporting an error
Write to [email protected] with a link to the article, the passage you think is wrong and, if you have one, a source for the right information. You do not need to be named in the article to ask for a correction.
What we do
- We check the claim against the original source.
- If we made a factual error, we fix the text and add a dated note at the foot of the article saying what was changed.
- If the article was unclear but not wrong, we may clarify it and note that we did.
- We do not quietly rewrite a published fact. Changes to spelling, grammar and layout are made without a note.
Updates
When events move on after publication, we may add a dated update. An update is new information; a correction means the original was wrong. We label them differently.
Removal requests
We do not remove accurate reporting on request. If you believe an article is inaccurate or unfair to you, tell us why and we will review it.
